Most healthcare providers often start with a blood test for patients with questions about their fertility. The blood test determines the levels of anti-mullerian hormone (AMH). The hormone is released by the eggs and declines with age as the number of eggs reduces.

The AMH test can provide a good idea of how many eggs someone has left. You can get the test at an NHS facility or a private clinic like The Scan Clinic.

The blood test can also measure follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels. The levels of FSH go up as the egg count goes down.

• Male hormone levels – Male hormone levels are also vital. They impact sperm quantity and quality. A blood panel will analyse the LH, FSH, and prolactin hormones can help identify an underlying hormonal imbalance.
